Martin Torch-Ishii is a cellist and educator involved in a wide variety of musical genres and projects.  Based in Ann Arbor, he teaches 25 private cello students, composes music, and maintains an active performance schedule through his home concert series. During the summer, Martin teaches at Cellovation in Ann Arbor, and the San Diego Cello Camp in California.

For five years, Martin was a member of the cello rock band Break of Reality, and performed at music festivals, colleges, and performing arts centers across the country. He presented over 100 educational workshops with the band, including lectures at the University of Michigan, Georgia Institute of Technology, and University of Wisconsin.

Martin received a Doctorate from The University of Michigan, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from The Cleveland Institute of Music, and a Performers Certificate from The Toho School of Music in Japan. He performs on a recently acquired cello from Eastern Europe, circa 1880.
